What is Ecumenism? < Home < Who We Are
Ecumenism is a means of promoting worldwide unity among religions through greater cooperation and improved understanding. In the AOCC, we view ecumenism as an opportunity to dialogue between groups and ourselves to have a better understanding of views and opinions. It is an opportunity to find a common ground to stand on - especially in a time when so many groups tend to be at odds with one another.
The AOCC not only opens her doors to dialogue with those within the Christian religion, but with other religious groups as well. One example is our relationship with the Knights of Notre Dame in New York - an interfaith order of clergy and rabbis working to provide medical, psychiatric and educational services. Another example are individual parishes and/or clergy who have been involved in Interfaith Councils and other similar forums.
Ecumenism is a positive step in building stronger relationships with other Christian denominations. Throughout the United States, the AOCC has built (and continues to build) a rapport with certain groups, such as Roman Catholic, United Methodist, Episcopal, Unitarian, Old Catholic, Non-denominational, Unitarian, and others.
For more information concerning dialogue with the AOCC in regard to ecumenical relations, please contact us at info@aoccw.org.
