Come, Holy Spirit, Come!
Ten
days after Jesus ascended into heaven, the twelve apostles, Jesus'
mother and family, and many other of His disciples gathered together
in Jerusalem for the Jewish harvest festival that was celebrated on
the fiftieth day of Passover. While they were indoors praying, a
sound like that of a rushing wind filled the house and tongues of
fire descended and rested over each of their heads. This was the
outpouring of the Holy Spirit on human flesh promised by God through
the prophet Joel. The disciples were suddenly empowered to proclaim
the gospel of the risen Christ. They went out into the streets of
Jerusalem and began preaching to the crowds gathered for the
festival. Not only did the disciples preach with boldness and
vigor, but by a miracle of the Holy Spirit they spoke in the native
languages of the people present, many who had come from all corners
of the Roman Empire. This created a sensation. The apostle Peter
seized the moment and addressed the crowd, preaching to them about
Jesus' death and resurrection for the forgiveness of sins. The
result was that about three thousand converts were baptized that
day.

Life
and Mission
The
life and work of the American Orthodox Catholic Church Western Rite
begins in local congregations, grows throughout dioceses (or
vicariates) led by bishops (or episcopal vicars), and extends into
global relationships. How are you called to play a part in the
mission – the life and work – of the church?
First, we must ask: what is the
mission of the Church? The mission of the Church is to restore all
people to unity with God and each other in Christ. Second, how does
the Church pursue its mission? The Church pursues its mission as it
prays and worships, proclaims the Gospel, and promotes justice,
peace, and love. And third, through whom does the Church carry out
its mission? The church carries out its mission through the ministry
of all its members.

Blog: Christ Among Us
The AOCC
now has her own blog! Yes, we have entered the 21st century! Each
Sunday, a member of the clergy, religious or ecumenical minister
will contribute a sermon that will be available on the blog titled
"Christ Among Us." You can read the blog
here.

The Prayer of the AOCC
Almighty God, our
diversity is your gift, and leads us to reach beyond
ourselves to embrace people of every race, location,
nation, ethnic and social background. Countless are
those who have come to our doors with their hopes and
dreams, seeking acceptance, welcome, safety, dignity and
freedom to worship you. By your grace they continue to
be invited and nourished by our community of faith. As
an ecclesiastical family of service, prayer, and love,
may we your clergy and religious, further grow in faith
and always be a beacon of truth and openness to others.
Amen.
